Sponsored by the Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut and Latinos for National Health Insurance — a summit designed to ensure that the needs and voices of Latinos are not ignored in health care reform efforts. The Host Committee for the conference included: District Council 37 (AFSCME), NY Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, The Connecticut Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission, Columbia University Center for the Health of Urban Minorities, Hispanic Center of Excellence Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Universal Health Care Action Network, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), NYU Center for Latino Health, National Hispanic Council on Aging, Healthcare NOW, and Northeast Action.

  July 3,2008 Washington Roundtable: Making Health Insurance Accessible to Latinos There is much debate and disagreement on the issue of affordable health insurance and quality healthcare. In this installment of DCB'08, Ray Suárez moderates a discussion with a distinguished panel of guests. Dr. Jaime Torres of the Latinos for National Health Insurance feels the current state of affairs is a prescription for disaster and that we want a national healthcare plan that insures "every person in American." • Community Forum "Universal Health Insurance -- The Solution to the Healthcare Crisis!" featuring Congressman Jose Serrano, Lincoln Hospital, Bronx, NY
• In conjunction with the Center for the Health of Urban Minorities we obtained a two-year grant from the NYS Health Foundation to do economic analysis of different alternative for expanding insurance coverage in New York State
